It's a nice looking blog, but is it wise to blog in English only in that particualr constituency? Also his Welsh tagline says "Welsh Conservative Assembly" instead of "Welsh Conservative Candidate"

You're right. Surely is should say 'Ymgeisydd y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig yn Dwyfor Meirionydd'?

My Welsh grammar is appalling, but should there also be a mutation...'Yn Nwyfor Meirionydd'?

I wouldn't but Mike Wood.

I wonder whether it's a conscious attempt to appeal to the many monoglot English speakers in that constituency, some of whom dislike all this Welsh bilingual business but rarely come out and say so openly.

Or perhaps the chap just happens not to speak Welsh and doesn't have the resources to get someone to translate each blog post.

One for the Conspiracy Files....

Cock-up rather than conspiracy I promise you.
When I first put it up, it read "Ymgeisydd Cynulliad y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig yn Dwyfor Meirionnydd" (I had still got the mutation wrong). I changed it in the early hours of Saturday morning whilst half asleep and deleted the wrong word, which I copied onto my e-mail. There were some mistakes in the English as well but not as embarrassing as making them in the banner.

My Welsh is poor and coming along much more slowly than I would like, but having been involved in student politics at Aberystwyth, even I know the difference between cynulliad and ymgeisydd when I'm awake.

I was unsure about whether it was better to have a regularly updated blog in English or a fully bilingual site that can only be updated when I can get entries translated. I have been a strong supporter of bilingualism since I was at university and am in favour of a new Welsh Language Act, giving Welsh full official status and introducing an independent Welsh Language Commissioner to ensure that public bodies fulfil their obligations.

I shall be adding entries in Welsh and will be getting the static parts of the site translated.

Thanks for visiting the blog. Hope you return soon.

Cheers, Mike.

That seems to clear it up pretty comprehensively.
