BNP TV

Tonight, the BNP will get a chunk of airtime for their party political broadcast. And there's a concerted campaign going on to stop it. (So far supported by the National Union of Journalists, the Broadcasting Entertainment Cinematograph and Theatre Union, Unite Against Fascism and Respect).

You can read all about the legislation and guidelines relating to the party political broadcasts HERE.

Needless to say, there are those who are asking broadcasters to censor. I suppose it's simply a question of whether that is necessary, or whether the public can decide for themselves.

How stupid it would be to ban the BNP from TV. Voters have a pretty low opinion of main stream politicians so such a ban would make the BNP more popular, people would just ask whatare these bastards trying to stop us hearing. Do the banners have such a low opinion of the electorate that they think they wouldn't be able to see through a bunch of tossers like the BNP?

I hate and despise the SWP and their Islamofascist friends in Respect, but I wouldn't ban their broadcasts. By the way it's quite a joke to see the BNP posing as an anti-Muslim party, when the history of English fascism is closely linked with Jew hating and pro-Arab sympathies. Much like many on the left today.

I may not agree with what they say, but I defend their right to say it.

Free speech and free choice is under enough attack in this country at present, we must at all costs defend the right of people to speak freely, so that we may take informed choices in our lives.

Nanny does NOT have a right to tell me what is good for me.

The UAF is an umbrella group led by a small handful of unelected leaders. They draw funds from amicus and many of their supporters belong to the Respect party which is financed by the Muslim Council of Britain.

The position that Nazi organisations like the BNP should not have the same freedom of speech as other groups is known as "No platform for fascists" it is one supported publicly by Rhodri Morgan, First Minister for Wales, people like Plaid candidate Ian Titherington, the NUS, virtually every trade union, as well as a host of other organisations besides those listed on your post.

If it's anything like their Scottish offering, the only danger is that some electors may fall asleep whilst operating machinery. Well worth a watch. Lots of shots of rubbish and bin bags. You can find it on YouTube.

Since most PEBs go pretty much unseen, I think a fuss would give them the oxygen of publicity, and to paraphrase Linda Smith, I'm reluctant to give them the oxygen of oxygen :)

Isn't he that guy who is a member of a party which has waged and illegal war and responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths? The BNP seem quite mild in comparison. Hypocrites.

hehe.

I was talking about the campaign relating to this PPB in particular. I understand there's a demo tomorrow outside the BBC. If Rhodri Morgan is going to be there then that is certainly news to me.

Linda Smith? wasn't she in the Socialist Workers Party. In essence a fascist party itself.

Not as far as I am aware. If you have evidence to the contrary let's see it ;)

It's funny though that you want to discredit Linda Smith, since I paraphrased her, the original quote was about Jeffrey Archer - doh.
