Betsan, bits and blogs

Labour are busy trying to kill the hospital 'closure' story today. But they seem to be attacking it with a toothpick rather than a sledge hammer. See below for more on that.

In the meantime, they’ve also launched their new campaign website, complete with blogtributions from Alun Davies (Mid & West Wales) and Lesley Griffiths (Wrexham). Alun has had a four month break from blogging to sharpen his canines, let’s hope he picks up where he left off.

As for the rest of the site, 'New Labour = No Choice' seems to be the message. Click on the page titled ‘The Choice’ and you get this: "Oh no! You're looking for something which just isn't here!" Probably just a bug, but it sums up pretty well what Labour seem to think about their political opponents:)

Meanwhile Betsan is blogging. But while the speccy (and at least erring on the side of geeky) Nick Robinson and David Cornock get to hide behind cartoon mock-ups, Betsan’s smiling face appears in amazing technicolor. So far she’s explained what a blog is (good start) and even experimented with an element of humour. I’m slightly confused by the latest post, though: "Wayne, the darts champ and I hope to bring some clarity to the way we elect our Assembly Members." I suspect you need to have watched Wales Today to get that one, unless Betsan is planning to be the Welsh blogosphere’s first surrealist.

And finally, a tip off from Left Field: somebody tell the Welsh Green Party that the Assembly has moved.

I see that the campaign site has stenciled in Welsh translations for the titles even though all the content is in English. You can bet on Bender's shiny metal ass I'll be blogging something about THAT.

Be fair, how were they supposed to know?

I like the profile of the Green's north Wales candidate:

Jim is a competent Welsh speaker.

Does that mean they think most Welsh speakers are incompetent? ;-)

Better that than incontinent:)

Because she's the political editor. Best to keep a cap on it lest it become the British Blogging Corporation.

so why do u encourage politicians to blog? surely journalists of all shape should be able to voice their opinions on the hot topics of the day?

Unless imbued with particular responsibility, the job of a journalist is to report opinions other than his or her own in a fair and balanced manner. It is quite the opposite for politicians, whose job it is to have an opinion on absolutely everything.

I think Betsan is FABULOUS!

If I could pack her in my suitcase and take her home to Miami, I would do it in a New York Minute! Her posts are a little clunky, but please boys and girls, let's be kind . . .

More Welsh whining here, as I see it, when you don't realize how good you've got it -- in the states we suffer from complete idiots commenting on politics 24/7 -- at least Betsan is smart, educated and asks intelligent questions.

If you aren't grateful, God might bless Cymru with CNN & Fox News monsters . . .

God help us in Miami during the next election cycle and we have to hear the inarticulate but glamorous babble again . . . Oy vay!

Hear hear.

I'm sure by May 4th she'd be delighted to go with you:)

Well. I think Betsan is a great presenter - and I'm going to read her blog. I hope she will break out of the stultifying fear the Beeb seem to have of saying anything even remotely provocative.

I think she's gorgeous. She's the only reason I watch Mastermind Cymru, anyway.
